Elements of Plain Milling Cutter

Elements of Plain Milling Cutter Points : Elements of Plain Milling Cutter, Parts of Plain Milling Cutter The different elements of a plain milling cutter are as follows.
1. Body of cutter
2. Fillet
3. Face
4. Cutting Edge
5. Gash
6. Land
7. Root Diameter
8. Outside Diameter
9. Cutter Angles
10. Relief Angle
11. Clearance Angle
12. Rake Angle (radial)
13. Lip Angle
1. Body of cutter Main structure of cutter on which teeth rest to shape a basic part is identified as body of cutter. It is part left after exclude teeth and the part on which the teeth are attached. 2. Fillet Rounded surface at bottom of gash which join the face of one teeth to back of tooth directly ahead. 3. Face Cutter part nearby to the cutting edge on which the chip impinge through a milling operation. 4. Cutting Edge Edge shaped by intersection of teeth with the circular land of surface left with the provision of primary clearance. 5. Gash The gap among the back of one tooth and face of another. It is required for clearing chip off workpiece. 6. Land Portion of back of tooth adjacent to cutting edge which is relieved to shun intrusion among the surface being machined and the cutter. 7. Root Diameter Diameter of the round passing through the bottom of fillet. 8. Outside Diameter Diameter of cutter by way of centre and joining two ends of edge. 9. Cutter Angles Similar to single point cutting tool, milling cutter is too give by rake, clearance with other angles to eliminate metal powerfully. 10. Relief Angle Angle among the land of a tooth and the tangent to outside diameter at cutting perimeter. 11. Clearance Angle The two types of clearance angels on milling cutter:
a. Primary clearance
b. Secondary clearance angle
a. Primary Clearance Angle It is angle among the surface of land with a tangent to border at the cutting edge. b. Secondary Clearance Angle It is angle created by secondary clearance surface of tooth with the tangent to the border at the cutting edge. 12. Rake Angle (radial) Angle calculated in diametrical plane among face of tooth with a radial line by way of the cutting edge. It can be positive, negative and zero. 13. Lip Angle The integrated angle among the land and the face of tooth.
