OR
It is a region within which the magnet can exert its magnetic force. 2. Magnetic poles Magnet has maximum power of attraction or repulsion on its opposite ends called poles. 3. Magnetic force Magnet attracts other magnetic substances with a force. This force is different from electrostatic and gravitational force called magnetic force. OR Force experienced by a magnetic substance in a field of a magnet is called magnetic force. 4. Magnetic substances Substances which can be converted into magnets are called magnetic substances. Examples: • Iron
• Nickel
• Steel 5. Non magnets Substances, which are neither attracted nor repelled by a magnet, are called non-magnet. Examples: • Wood
• Glass
• Paper 6. Ferromagnetic substances A substance, which behaves like a magnet in the presence of a strong magnetic field is called Ferro-magnet. Examples: • Iron
• Nickel 7. Soft magnetic substances Ferro magnetic substances, which losses their magnetism when, removed from the magnetic field, are called soft Ferro magnetic substances. Examples: • Soft Iron 8. Hard magnetic substances Ferro magnetic substances. which retain their magnetism when, removed from the magnetic field, are called hard Ferro magnetic substances. Examples: • Steel
