Points : Spinning, Definition Definition Spinning is a relatively simple process in which a circular blank of metal is fixed 10 the spinning chuck of a lathe. As the blank rotates it is forced up in to shape by means of hand-operated tools of blunt steel or hardwood, supporter on a hand rest.
The function of the hand-tool is to press the metal into contact with a former of (lie desired shape. This former is also fixed to the rotating chuck. The operation is in some respects similar to that of a potter’s wheel in which the lump of clay is replaced by a flat disc of metal. Large reflectors, aluminum teapots and hot—water bottles, and other domestic hallow-ware are frequently produced by spinning.
