Points : Care of Milling Cutters Milling cutters are expensive and easily ruined if care is not taken in using and storing them. The following cares will help to extend the cutter life.

1. Cutters should be kept sharp.
2. The cutting edges are bound to become worn with use, so they should always be inspected before starting a job.
3. Cutters that are sharpened frequently usually last longer than those that are allowed to became quite dull.
4. Cutters must be properly supported and work held rigidly.
5. Use correct cutting speed and feed.
6. Lubricant is help full for milling steel, both as coolant and for producing a good finish. The lubricant may be oil or emulsion of oil and water.
7. Use correct cutter for the job.
8. Store cutters in a proper way.
9. Clean the cutter after working.
10. Never hammer the cutter on to the arbor.
11. Place the board under the end mill when removing it from a vertical milling machine to prevent damage to the cutter if it drops accidentally.
