- Use correct cutting speed and feed.
- Lubricant is help full for milling steel, both as coolant and for producing a good finish. The lubricant may be oil or emulsion of oil and water.
- Use correct cutter for the job.
- Store cutters in a proper way.
- Clean the cutter after working.
- Never hammer the cutter on to the arbor.
- Place the board under the end mill when removing it from a vertical milling machine to prevent damage to the cutter if it drops accidentally.
