Advantages and Disadvantages of Ocean Thermal Energy
Advantages and Disadvantages of Ocean Thermal Energy
Points : advantages and disadvantages of ocean thermal energy, advantages and disadvantages of ocean thermal power plant, merits and demerits of ocean thermal energy, merits and demerits of ocean thermal power plant
Advantages
- There is sufficient solar energy received and store in warm tropical ocean surface layer to give most, if not
all, of present human energy wants.
- It avail the energy as of the sunrays therefore provide another way to harness solar energy.
- It produces fresh water with electricity. This is a major advantage in island areas where fresh water is
limited.
- Infinite source of free energy specially in tropical waters.
- It doesn’t reason air pollution.
- It is renewable energy resource.
Disadvantages
- It produced electricity at there would cost more than electricity generate as of fossil fuels at their current
costs.
- Wants a large difference in temperatures (surface and deep) for greatest results.
- Construction of power plants and lying of pipes in coastal waters can cause localised damage to reefs and near
-shore marine environment.
- Power stations can be located away as of load centres thus rising transmission cost.
- Desires a stable supply of warm and cold water, so just proper for tropical locations.
- It has low intensity.
