Milling Machine Attachments

Milling Machine Attachments Points : Milling Machine Attachments, high speed milling attachment, universal milling attachment, vertical milling attachment, slotting attachment, rack milling attachment, index plates, rotary attachment, universal spiral milling attachment, dividing head attachment Various standard or special secondary devices are use on milling machine for augment range, flexibility, production and precision of process. A few milling attachments are use for position with driving the cutter by changing the axis of revolution. Other devices are use for positioning, holding with feeding the work. Different attachments uses on milling machines are given below.
1. High Speed Milling Attachment
2. Universal Milling Attachment
3. Vertical Milling Attachment
4. Slotting Attachment
5. Rack Milling Attachment
6. Index Plates
7. Rotary Attachment
8. Universal Spiral Milling Attachment
9. Dividing Head Attachment
1. High Speed Milling Attachment High speed milling attachment consists principally of number of gears (4-6) with this in a casing for rising the usual speed of milling machine spindle. It is use to get the accurate cutter speed used for small milling cutters.
2. Universal Milling Attachment Spindle of universal milling attachment can swivelled on two equally perpendicular axes and can set at every angle in equally planes. In other compliments it is like to vertical milling attachment. This attachment is particularly valuable as the spindle needs to set at an angle to table for angular milling.
3. Vertical Milling Attachment Vertical milling attachment used for convert a horizontal milling machine in to vertical milling machine by orient cutting spindle axis as of horizontal to vertical position. This attachment is use for vertical milling operations by large end mills and face mills. Spindle head can swivelled to every degree for milling operations.
4. Slotting Attachment Slotting attachment change the rotary motion of spindle into reciprocating motion of ram through means of an eccentric or crank housed in attachment, Therefore a milling machine can changed into a slotter by accept a single point slotted tool at bottom end of ram It is largely used for making tools, keyways and splines. The attachment can set at several angles as of 0 to 90°. Attachment is bolt on face of column and can too be swiveled at angle for machining angular surfaces. Length of stroke of ram can moreover be adjusted.
5. Rack Milling Attachment Rack milling attachment is fixed to face of column and is use for cutting rack teeth but can too be use in conjunction by the universal spiral index for cutting worms and other various operations. Attachment consisting of gear train enables the spindle axis to tilting at correctly angles to machine spindle.
6. Index Plates Indexing plates use on dividing heads for dividing the periphery of a part into equivalent/required degrees. These plates contain uniformly spaced holes given in circular rows. Every plate has six concentric circular rows. By these plates the division of circle is feasible in a series as of 2 to 20,000 parts.
7. Rotary Attachment Rotary attachment is too identified as circular milling attachment and is use for a multiplicity of circular milling operations, for example spline slotting segmental milling, segment out lines and die making workpiece. The attachment consists of circular table having T-Slots mount on graduated base. Circular table can be rotate through hand, and in special case by power by relating the rotary table driving mechanism through the machine lead screw. The edge of the table is graduated in degrees for precise work.
8. Universal Spiral Milling Attachment Universal spiral milling attachment is use mostly for milling helical and spiral gear teeth. Attachment is use on a plain or universal milling machine through bolting on face of column. It is proper for vertical with angular milling for cutting worms with grooves on twist drills and milling cutters.
9. Dividing Head Attachment Dividing head attachment is too name an indexing head. It is mostly in use on milling machines for setting the workpiece with rotating it through pre determined angles and dividing circles into the necessary number of parts. The work can be mounting on chuck fixed on the dividing head spindle or may be support among a live and dead center. Dead center is mount on foot stock as in a lathe tail stock that is fasten on machine table after properly aligning its spindle axis by the dividing head spindle. Attachment is extremely proper for dividing the edge of the workpiece into an equal number of pans. It can too be coupled by the table lead screw for cutting similarly spaced helical grooves on the edge of a cylindrical work. Worm and worm gear driving mechanism of attachment can linked by the table lead screw for cutting uniformly spaced helical grooves on the periphery of a cylindrical work piece.
Three types of dividing heads generally use are given below:
a. Plain
b. Universal
c. Helical
a. Plain Spindle of a plain dividing head turn on the horizontal axis. b. Universal Universal dividing head is a customized appearance of plain dividing head whose spindle can be swivelled in vertical plane. c. Helical Helical dividing head is like to a plain dividing head in plan but its spindle can attached to a table lead screw through intermediary gears. In this method two types of motions can convey to a job rotary and translatory. This arrangement is proper for cutting helical gears beside the line.
