Camshaft
Camshaft
Points : Camshaft
Camshaft is basically a shaft on which cams are mounted. The camshaft is mount in
bearings in the lower part of the cylinder block in most in-line engines. In a few
engines it is located on the cylinder head. In V-S engines it is located between the
two banks of cylinders. A can is a device that changes rotary motion of the camshaft
into linear motion of the follower or lifter. The cam has high spot or lobe. The
disciple riding on the cams will move gone from or towards the camshaft as the cam
rotates. A camshaft is responsible for opening the valves. A camshaft has a figure
of cams along the length, two cams for each cylinder, one to operate the inlet valve
and the other the exhaust valve. In addition, the camshaft has an eccentric to
operate the fuel pump and a gear to drive the ignition distributor and oil pump. The
camshaft is ambitious by the crankshaft either by a pair of meshing gears (timing
gears) or by means of a pair of timing sprockets linked by a chain. The camshaft
gear or sprocket has two times as a lot of teeth as the gear or sprocket on the
crankshaft.
