  1. Compound steam engines are improved balanced and more regular torque is presented, thus requiring light flywheel.
  2. Compound steam engines are cheaper than simple steam engine for similar power output and efficiency.
  3. Compound steam engine is able of getting started at some crank position due to phase difference between different cylinders.
  4. team economy is improved through 10 to 25% at rated load for non-condensing engine and through 15 to 40% for condensing engine.
Disadvantages
  1. Lubrication necessities are extreme because of increased wear and tear in engine parts.
  2. Heat losses are extra due to large surface area of compound engines.
  3. Compound steam engine requires extra maintenance and concentration due to difficulty.
  4. Compound steam engines are huge and need large space.
