Points : Definition, Principle Working and Advantages of Amplifier
Definition
Amplifier is a device use to increase the amplitude of an input signal (current or voltage) without changing the shape of wave.
Principle
In transistors a small change in the base current produce a large change in the collector current. Due to this characteristic a
transistor is used as an amplifier.
Working
In electrical circuits a small base current to a transistor release a large collector current, which is used to operate electrical devices such as .lamp, loud speaker etc. Thus transistor is used as a switching device.
Advantages of Transistors
• Transistors are small in size.
• Transistors are light in weight.
• Transistors are not easily broken.
• Transistors produce little heat.
• Transistors use very little potential.
• Transistors are very cheap.
• Transistors have long operating life.
Electrical Instruments in Which Transistors are Used
• Audio and video recorders
• Voltage stabilizer
• Television
• Telephone
• Computers
• Radio
