Construction and Working of Transistor Points : Definition, Construction and Working of Transistor Definition Transistor is a semiconductor which consists of a thin central layer (3-5m) of one type semiconductor material sandwiched between two relatively thick pieces of the other type. Construction Transistor consists of following three parts.
• Base
• Emitter
• Collector
Base It is a very thin and central part of transistor. Emitter It is a thick piece and placed o one side of the base. Collector It is also relatively thick piece and placed on the other side of the base. Working While voltage is functional to transistor the emitter supply electrons which are pull through the base as of the emitter as it is more positive than the emitter. Movements of electrons as of emitter to collector create a flow of electricity during the transistor. The current pass from the emitter to the collector through base. Therefore, change of voltage in base region modifies the flow of current in transistor by altering the number of electrons in the base section. In this method, small changes in the base voltage can reason large changes in current flowing out of the collector. Every transistor contains three “elements”: Emitter - analogous to cathode of a valve. Emitter just emits electrons in a NPN device. Base - the controlling terminal. Current at the base control the current during the transistor. Collector - principally collects the emitted electrons rather analogous to plate of a valve.
