Types of Moulding Flasks
Types of Moulding Flasks
Points : Types of Moulding Flasks, Tapered Slip Flask, Snap Flask, Wooden Moulding Box, Box Flask or Tight Flask
Different types of moulding flask are used in a foundry, some common moulding
flasks are described as under.
Tapered Slip Flask
It is another removable type flask having rigid corners, its sides having smooth inside
surface with 5 degree taper so as to allow removal of the flask upward.
Snap Flask
Snap flask is made with a hinge on one corner and a lock on the opposite corner so
that the flask may be removed from the mould before pouring. Advantage of snap
flask is that many moulds can be made from a single flask for the same pouring. The
inside surfaces of the snap flask are channeled, grooved, or ribbed’ to help in holding
the sand from falling out during moulding.
Wooden Moulding Box
It is employed for large castings required in small quantity. Its side timbers are
continued beyond the ends of the box forming two handles at each end for easy
handling. They are held together by strong cross-timbers, reinforced with bolts.
Box Flask or Tight Flask
It is remains on the mould until the pouring operation is over. They are usually made
of metal and very much suited to small and medium sized moulds.
