Straddle Milling Operation Points : Straddle Milling Operation When two side milling cutters are used to machine two opposite sides of a piece at the same time the set-up is called Straddle Milling. Cutter used for this operation should be kept in matched pairs. That is, they should be sharpened at the same time to maintain equal diameters. The width of the shoulder is determined b the thickness of the spacer between the cutters. Arbor spacers are available in a large selection of sizes. Special sizes can be made by grinding standard sizes to the needed size. Shim stock washers are used with spacers when other than standard sizes are required.
