Application of Continuous Casting
Application of Continuous Casting
Points : Application of Continuous Casting Process, Uses of Continuous Casting Process
Advantages of continuous casting in main metals manufacture have been
recognized for more than a century. The dramatic increase of this
technology, though, has just been realized as 1960. The principal
advantages of continuous casting process are high production, high
material give way, good product excellence, and low energy use. The main
principle of continuous casting is to bypass conventional ingot casting
and to cast a form that is straight rollable on finishing mills. Cross-
sectional shape of continuously cast blooms/ slabs/billets can round,
square, or rectangular. The principle of continuous casting process is
to type cast bloom/billet/slab in a always reserved water-cooled copper
mold. To stop sticking of frozen casting surface to the copper mold,
mold is usually oscillating during casting process and a lubricant is
added to mold metal interlace, resulting in a smooth as-cast surface.
Beyond the mold, water spray is use to speed up heat removal; this
results in a fast cooling rate and a reduced degree of macrosegregation
in casting. Continuous casting is mainly use for ferrous alloys,
especially low carbon steels. Currently, most of worlds near 800 million
tons of steel produced each year are made by continuous casting process.
