Operation of a Lubrication System of Gas Turbine
Operation of a Lubrication System
Points : Operation of a Lubrication System Gas Turbine
The Lubricating oil system consists of reservoir, pump coolers, heaters, filters, piping valves, and various
controls and instrumentation. Dual equipment is furnished for key components to allow for servicing
and to allow for back up which increase reliability. Lubricating oil is pump from the main reservoir to
the bearing header. The pump may be main shaft driven or electric motor driven. After the lubricating
oil has lubricated the beatings it flows back through gravity drain lines to the main reservoir or other
supplementary reservoirs located near the bearings the lubricating oil its pumped through a cooler that
rejects heat absorbed from the equipment bearing to the cooling system. A transfer valve is similarly
provided to direct the lubricating oil how which allows cleaning of the non operating filter. During
stand by period the lubricating oil may be maintained at the proper viscosity by. heaters installed in
the main Lub oil reservoir. Temperature control cycle these heaters on and of as necessary to maintain
the proper lub oil temperature.
A typical arrangement of p[umps includes a main lub oil pump driven by an accessory year off the main
turbine shaft or by an auxiliary alternating current (ac) motor driven pump and an emergency direct
current motor-driven pump. These are usually. Submerged, centrifugal driven type pumps.
The main lub oil pump operates during normal gas turbine operation. The auxiliary tube Oil pump
operates during gas turbine tart up or shutdown or wherever sufficient pressure is riot available in the
tub oil system. The emergency lub oil pump starts automatically when AC power is not available when
the tub oil supply header pressure drops bellow the pressure setting. Regulating valves are included to
control lube oil system pressure. Instruments monitor the pressure and temperature and provides
alarms and automatic shutdown of the gas turbine as necessary.
