Fibre Ropes Drives Points : Fibre Ropes Drives Ropes for transmit power are generally made as of rubbery materials for example manila, hemp and cotton. As manila and hemp fibres are rough, thus the ropes prepared from these fibres are not extremely flexible and possesses reduced mechanical properties. Hemp ropes contain less strength as compare to manila ropes. While the manila and hemp ropes are turned above the sheave, there is a few sliding of fibres, cause the rope to wear and chafe inside. In order to minimise this fault, the rope fibres are lubricate by a tar, tallow or graphite. Lubrication too makes rope moisture proof. Hemp ropes are proper only for hand operate hoisting machinery and as tie ropes for thrilling tackle, hooks and so on. Cotton ropes are extremely soft and smooth. The lubrication of cotton ropes is not required. But if it is done, it decreases the outside wear among the rope and the grooves of its sheaves. It can be noted that manila ropes are more tough and stronger than cotton ropes. The cotton ropes are costlier than manila ropes.
