Gas Turbine Blade Material

Gas Turbine Blade Material Points : Gas Turbine Blade Material, IN-738, U-500 Of all gas turbine components the first-stage blade must withstand the most severe combination of temperature, stress and environment. Vacuum-cast nickel-base alloys, strengthened through solution and precipitation hardening heat treatments, have been favored over the cobalt-base alloys used for the construction of nozzles. IN-738 Currently, first stage blades of most two-stages high performance turbines and some second stages of three stage high performance turbines arc made of IN-738. U-500 Last stage blades on some turbines are currently made of U-500 or nimonic. Both are alloys previously used the first stages. Likes IN-738. they are preci1itation-hardened, nickel-base alloys. Their application to first stage buckets was discontinued when the use of higher firing temperatures required higher creep-rupture strength and oxidation resistance. Because of the lower metal temperature of the last stage blades, their application to the last stage of higher-firing temperature designs is a logical and conservation extension.
