Engine Cylinder Block

Engine Cylinder Block Points : Engine Cylinder Block It is the essential structure of the engine. A rigid metal foundation is provided by the engine block for various parts of the engine. The cylinders are limited in it. The valve seats, ports and guide may also be built into it. The crankshaft, camshaft etc. are also support by it. Various accessory units and clutch shelter are bolted with it. The engine chunk may be cast from grey iron or cast iron alloyed with nickel or chromium and aluminum. They are usually made from a heavy duty alloy. In modern engines, a rigid structure is provided by integral construction on the cylinder block and crankcase into a single casting.
But a separate block having the cylinder and crankcase of the crankshaft provides improved accessibility to the points, bearings and valves. Due to additional cost of machining and assembling, this arrangement is not adopted. To prevent expansion, distortion and ultimate seizure of moving parts, water cooled engines are provide passages surrounding each cylinder, valve and spark plug to maintain the engine at its correct working temperature by the circulating water.
