SCIENTIFIC REASONS

1. CONDITION FOR FLOATATION OF BODIES:

When weight of the body balanced by the upthurst or buoyant force then the body float on the surface of liquid (water).

2. METALLIC NEEDLE SINK IN WATER (WHY):

Upthurst on an iron needle is less than its weight so it sinks down in the water.

3. SHIPS FLOAT ON THE SURFACE OF WATER (WHY)

The upthurst on a ship is made large by making its volume large, its value is equal to the weight of the ship so the ship floats on the surface of water.

4. PRINCIPLE OF DIVING AND FLOATATION OF SUBMARINE:

Submarines are fitted with large hollow blast tanks. To drive in water submarine takes water into its hollow tanks. This increases the weight of the submarine and it submerges into water. For raising submarine, compressed air is forced into the tanks, which expels the water from the tank. This decreases the weight of the submarine therefore, the submarine rises and floats on the surface of water.
