Function of Suspension System Points : Function of Suspension System The steering system and wheels remain in correct alignment due to suspension system.
  1. It supports the weight of frame, body, engine transmission, drive line and passengers.
  2. The suspension allows the wheels and tires to move up and down with maximum movement of the vehicle body. Resultantly, passengers feel smooth and comfortable journey.
  3. On road turns when the vehicle is at speed it tries to roll out due to centrifugal force. Due to the suspension it turns rapidly without rolling out.
  4. When the tires encounter a jump or hole it tries to fly but suspension rejects this attempt causing the tire to remain in firm contact with the road.
  5. The body of the vehicle tries to tilt down at rear end when a accelerating or when there is a heavy load on the vehicle. The suspension system acts to prevent this body squat.
  6. The body of the vehicle also tries to tilt down at front end when braking. The suspension acts to prevent from this body dive.
  7. Due to the suspension system both front wheels can turn from side to side for steering.
  8. The steering system and wheels remain in correct alignment due to suspension system.
The suspension system contains springs, swivel joints, dampening device, in overlie arms, etc.
