1. Untie the jaw near low spot with tighten jaw conflicting low spot to regulate the work nearer to center.
2. Put a surface reason on lathe bed with amends point of scriber so to it is lock to work surface.
3. Surface gauge is then moved across the surface of the steel, scribing a line.
4. Rotate lathe by hand to find the low spot on work.
5. It is normally used to scribe parallel lines.
