Types of Cooling System IC Engine
Types of Cooling System
Points : Types of Cooling System, Air-Cooled System, Liquid-Cooled System
There are two essential kind of cooling systems use in reciprocate IC
engines to take up and disperse the heat from the warm cylinder walls.
The two types of cooling systems are Direct or Air-Cooling and Indirect
or Liquid Cooling.
Air-Cooled System
Air-Cooled method is mostly use in small engines and in a few
medium-sized engines. Mainly small-engine tools and toys similar to
lawnmowers, chain saws, replica airplanes, etc. are air cooled. This
method occupies less space, and allows the heaviness and cost of these
engines to be reserved low. Several Automobiles, Motorcycles,
Stationary Engines and Aircraft too have air-cooled engines as of their
lesser weights.
Liquid-Cooled System
Liquid-cooled method, water is commonly used as a cooling medium.
Though, further liquids or a combination of water and extra liquids
might too be use in method to put off chilly of the coolant at lesser
hotness. In this method the cylinder walls and heads are bounded with
cover during which the cooling liquid flow and soak up the heat from
the hot metal walls of engine. The water is then cooled by way of an
air-cooled radiator method, cooling tower or cooler and re-circulated
during the engine casing. Therefore, in liquid coolant soak up heat as
of cylinder and junk it to the air flow.
