Properties of Moulding Sands Points : Properties of Moulding Sands, 1. Refractoriness The property which allow it to oppose high hotness of the molten metal with no breaking down or fusing. 2. Cohesiveness The property of sand owing to which sand grains stick jointly through ramming. It is define as strength of the moulding sand. 3. Plasticity The property of sand due to which it flows to every sections of the moulding box. Sand have to enough plasticity to make a good mould. 4. Chemical Stability The property of sand to oppose chemical reaction by molten metal is term as chemical constancy. 5. Porosity The property of sand which allows the steam with other gases to bypass during the sand mould. Porosity of sand depends upon its grain mass, moisture, grain shape and clay components are moulding sand. Sand is also fine, the porosity will low. 6. Adhesiveness The properties of sand due to it adhere or cling to sides of the moulding box.
