Transformer

Transformer Points : transformer definition, types of transformer, parts of a transformer A transformer is a static device of converting ac current at low voltage to high voltage and vice versa at same frequency. The transformer which converts low potential to high potential is called a step up transformer where as the one which converts high potential to low potentials is called a step down transformer. Step up Transformer If the number of turns in secondary are more than the number of turns in primary the induced voltage in secondary. Thus the voltage is stepped up. So, this type of transformer is known as step up transformer. Step Down Transformer When the number of turns in secondary are less than the number of turns in primary the voltage induced in secondary is less than the voltage applied at primary. This type of transformer thus steps down the voltage, so it is known as step down transformer. Fundamental Parts of a Transformer 1. Silicon steel laminated core
2. Primary winding
3. Secondary winding
4. Magnetic core
1. Silicon steel laminated core The composition of transformer core it depends on such factors as voltage, current, and frequency. Size limitations and construction costs are too factors to be consider. Generally used core materials are air, soft iron, and steel. 2. Primary winding Primary winding of transformer which produces magnetic flux as it is joined to electrical source. 3. Secondary winding Secondary winding of transformer the flux, created through primary winding, passes through the core, will link by the secondary winding. This winding too wounds on the similar core and gives the preferred output of transformer. 4. Magnetic core Magnetic core of transformer the magnetic flux created by the primary winding, that will pass through this low reluctance path linked by secondary winding and create a closed magnetic circuit.
