Gearbox overhaul is done by disassembling, cleaning, inspecting and replacing the parts as needed. All worn parts and used rubber seals are replaced. Always refer to the service manual for the particular gearbox since procedures and specifications vary from vehicle to vehicle.

After replacing worn parts, assembling and installing the gearbox, fill the housing with the correct type of lubricant. Most of the manual gearboxes use SAE 9OEP Gear Oil. Make sure you do not over fill the gearbox. Consult the relevant shop manual for type and capacity of steering gearbox.
