Milling Machine Cutter Angles
Points : Milling Machine Cutter Angles
Milling cutter is give by a rake, clearance angles with other cutting angles for capable taking away of
chips. Various angles give on cutters are given below.
1. Clearance Angle
There are two types of clearance angles on milling cutter
a. Primary Clearance Angle
b. Secondary Clearance Angle
a. Primary Clearance Angle
It is the angle among the surface of a land with a tangent to margin at cutting edge. It is give on the
cutter to stop the back of tooth as of rubbing against the job. Depending upon size of cutter, the
primary clearance angles vary as of 30 to 12°.
b. Secondary Clearance Angle
It is the angle created through the secondary clearance surface of tooth with the tangent to periphery at
the cutting edge. It is generally 3° greater than clearance angle.
2. Rake
Milling cutter so ground to the surface beside which the chips bear, as being served, incline in such a
method to the eagerness of cutting edge increases.
Rake angles are classify as
a. Zero
b. Positive
c. Negative
a. Zero
As radial line and tooth face match, the cutter is supposed to have a zero rake.
b. Positive
If face and tooth of cutter are on similar side of radial line, the cutter is supposed to have positive
rake.
c. Negative
If face of tooth and tooth corpse are on conflicting sides, the cutter is supposed to have a negative
rake.
3. Relief Angle
Relief angle between land of tooth and tangent to the outside diameter at cutting edge.
4. Axial Rake Angle
Line among the line of the tangential cutting edge and the axis of cutter.
5. Helix Angle
The preference of helical curve relative to its axis.
6. Lip Angle
The included angle between land and face of tooth.
