Theory of Ship Propeller Points : Theory of Ship Propeller Similar to every propeller, the purpose of ship’s propeller is to create thrust to drive ship by give momentum to water it move in an astern way. Propellers push or accelerate the water backwards. The accelerate water extend a reaction force on propeller which thrusts the ship ahead. Tip of every turning blade of propeller express a helical curve as propeller travel forward beside by the ship. The throw is equivalent to the longitudinal distance travelled with the ship for one revolution of the propeller.
